WHO Human African Trypanosomiasis Specimen Bank

WHO established a Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) biobank as a collection of biological specimens and associated bio-clinical data related to HAT to provide reference bio-resources to research institutions to foster the development and validation of affordable innovative new tests for the diagnosis of HAT. Donors of sub-Saharan Africa including patients, controls and suspects were enrolled according to the serological and parasitological algorithm screening for HAT. Clinical data and specimens of serum, plasma, buffy coat cells, saliva, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were collected following international standards. Samples and clinical data from donors are hosting at the Biological Research Center of the Institute Pasteur-Paris (BRCIP).
